ICEC-PAQS Conference 2018

ICEC-PAQS Conference 2018

Construction projects start and end with cost.

ICEC-PAQS 2018 Conference brings together construction cost professionals from around the globe for seminars and workshops with industry experts.

A world class line-up of speakers will take to the stage at this year’s Conference in Sydney. The Conference opens on 18th November at ICC Sydney and runs through until 20th November.

“The Conference is designed to educate professionals towards a global construction industry that powers from precision. Construction cost professionals are critical thinkers who strive to provide their clients with accurate costings and funds management from pre-design to design to construction to operation to obsolescence.” says Anthony Mills, President, AIQS.

Weaving through the Conference are themes that highlight clear pathways for construction cost professionals who want to stay on top of their game. The themes include new directions for Quantity Surveyors and Cost Estimators, cost management, innovation in construction, BIM, infrastructure, international law and standards, costs in sustainability, construction technology and innovation, industry relationships, global cost management, and project management.

The keynote speaker for the Conference is Professor Genevieve Bell who will deliver a presentation on human interaction with technology and its impact on the management of projects. Professor Bell is the Director of the 3A Institute, Florence Violet McKenzie Chair, and a Distinguished Professor at the Australian National University (ANU) as well as a Vice President and Senior Fellow at Intel Corporation. Professor Bell is a cultural anthropologist, technologist and futurist best known for her work at the intersection of cultural practice and technology development.

Integrated into the Conference is the 3rd International QS BIM Conference. Speakers will deliver high point content across ten sessions.

The Future of Industry plenary brings to stage left a collective of Quantity Surveyors (under age 35) and, to stage right, a history of Quantity Surveyors (over the age of 35) – a generational debate sure to raise eyebrows. Other Conference highlights include treetop life in the concrete jungle, international construction measurement standards, launch of the ANZIQS BIM Best Practice Guidelines.

Introduction to Integrated Project Delivery & Target Value Design

ROOM CHANGE NOTICE:
Please be advised that the new location for this event is Cristal Room.

CIQS – British Columbia will partner up with AACEi to organize our second dinner event of 2018/19 featuring, Tim Coldwell, President of Chandos. The night will include a networking reception, dinner and a one hour presentation. Join us with your fellow colleagues as Tim shares his presentation on the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). The talk will be tailored to an audience with a quantity surveyor and project management background. It will also focus on the role of the estimator on a IPD project.

“Integrated project delivery is designed for collaboration from the commencement of a project. CIQS Workshop | Know What You Don't Know: Uncertainty in Capital Projects

CIQS Workshop | Know What You Don't Know: Uncertainty in Capital Projects

Join us on Wednesday, November 21st in Edmonton to learn more about the Monte Carlo simulation and its application with Holly Parkis, Manager – Special Studies at SMA Consulting Inc.

Capital projects are an exercise in managing uncertainty. Every cost estimate represents the culmination of hundreds or even thousands of reasonable assumptions, best guesses, factors of safety, contingency calculations, and best or worst case scenarios. In a single point estimate, these may be hidden in reports or appendices, and the implications can be difficult to communicate. However, modern computing tools and Monte Carlo simulation techniques make it possible to easily calculate and display the full range of potential outcomes, giving valuable context to the point estimate.

This presentation will include an overview of Monte Carlo simulation and its application to capital project cost estimating, including risk analysis, range estimating, and joint cost and schedule modeling.

  • What are the traditional construction approaches adopted by the industry?
  • What are the existing faster/cheaper alternatives used and how successful are they?
  • What are the recent and emerging solutions and what benefits do they offer?
  • What is an example of a case study of a successful project using off-site construction?
  • What is the value proposition of off-site construction, with examples of costing?
  • What are the challenges/hurdles in adopting and how are they overcome?
