Summer 2017 Newsletter

This is the summer edition of CIQS–BC abbreviated newsletter which keeps you connected with the local Institute.

Happy 150th birthday Canada!

Dear members,

Canadians from Coast to Coast had fond memories of celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday. A long weekend of fireworks and barbecues, Sparklers and fluttering Maple Leaf flags evoked the memories of building a proud nation. Hope you all enjoyed spending time with families.

The future of Canada is in our hands. On this anniversary, we celebrate not only our nation but the professional and educational institutions which enable us to contemplate a strong and globally-significant future.

As I am writing this President’s message, it gives me immeasurable pride to think that CIQS is hosting the 21st annual Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) Congress in Vancouver July-21-26th. I invite all the members not to miss this great opportunity networking and learning with Quantity Surveyors from around the world. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible to fly the flag of pride at the PAQS 2017.

I am so honoured to become the president of CIQS-BC 2017/2018 board.

I would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to outgoing President Angela Lai for her commitment on the president’s role last two years. I am very grateful to her and the outgoing executives for their dedication over the past year, and wish you much success in all your future endeavours. Thank you!

We are excited to announce the CIQS-BC 2017/2018 Board members:

President Indu Elapatha
Vice president, Secretary & Treasurer Shane McKernan
Past President Angela Lai
Marketing Director Pasindu Gunathilake
Communication & Membership director Jack Chen
Education Director Keith Damphousse

We are pleased to announce that the Societies Act transition application and new bylaws for CIQS-BC has now been filed with the BC Registry Services. They were the subject of some discussion over the last few months, and were approved by special resolution at the Annual General Meeting on May 17th, 2017. As mentioned at the meeting, Bylaw 6.3 (1) and (5) have been amended for the clarity.

By now you should have received the CIQS National’s proposed governance restructuring details. The CIQS-BC Board values the views of our members, and we welcome your feedback and comments on this proposal. Special meeting will be called in August / September this year to discuss / approve this proposal.

I have seen our association grow and accomplish many great things. I’m looking forward to continue this upward momentum and another productive year ahead on the board with an excellent team of individuals.

Enjoy your summer everyone; expect to hear from us again in the fall.

Indu Elapatha, PQS
