Joint AACEi & CIQS Technical Presentation

Topic: How important is it to scientifically derive Project Contingency?

An appropriate value for project contingency is often a difficult number to develop. It is even a harder number to have alignment between senior management, the project manager, and the project services professionals involved with the project. Using quantitative methods to understand impact of risks on project cost, schedule, contingencies, and escalation helps bring alignment between these team members. John will present on why it is important to scientifically derive project contingency as well as methods to do this.

Presenter: John Zhao – Principal Consultant at RiskCore

John Zhao - Principal Consultant at RiskCoreJohn’s passion is project risk management. He has been a featured speaker on risk management at industry conferences around the world, and instructor on risk management for AACE International, University of Calgary, Mount Royal College, SAIT and PMI. With over 27 years’ experience in the construction industry, John has had the opportunity to work for EPC consulting firms and Owners on a diverse range of projects. His portfolio includes project management experience with Oil & Gas, public works, water treatment facilities, pharmaceutical, and buildings projects.

John’s focused area is on risk quantification technique but he also skillfully weaves risk practices into complex contracting and procurement strategy, which provide a semi-quantitative tool to conduct bids evaluation and contract selection. John also holds a Masters in Project Management (Construction) from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle and volunteers to coach and mentor the young professionals, contributing studentship to local universities.
